Gun Control

So, I have to write a five page in class essay on gun control to graduate university....sigh...what has our education system come to?....My question to you all is, will stiffer federal gun control laws reduce the problem of violent/fatal gun crimes in the US, like the Cho masacre of the VA Tech students? Why or why not?

Side note: Maybe we should just burn the Constitution and write a new one, or eat more Tofu and forget about it...

My opinion is that stiffer laws MAY reduce the likely hood of someone like that psycho Cho getting guns, but if someone is desparate enough, they will find a way to get what they want/need. Like the 'drug war' in America, guns would then become a black market item and would still get around, especially with the ability to purchase these items through the internet.

I'm kinda with Matt. What that does is move it more into the streets and underground. But we will never get to that point because hunters always get into that loophole and stretch it out. (Not anything against hunters, just an opinion).

Getting chased down Richmond Ave. by a pyscho, I'm in support of gun control. Also, some of my other experiences with those who have guns has influenced me.

Growing up, in elementary school and junior high I had a friend whose father had guns, he'd brag about it and used it as a power tool - he was "better" than others because he had guns in the out. An they were out on display with him and and brother fighting physcotically weekly. It wasn't the guns that scared me, but the people who had access to them. PS - I was sure that the parents were strung out on coke one night when they were acting weird and walking around the house naked. That family had all the money in the world but nothing else much.

(Sorry so long)

In college, I lived with an ex-convict onced charged with accessory to an aggrevated robbery. Pursuing his bachelors degree and later his masters, he broke the learned stereotypes I had about convicts. But his demeanor while drunk, scared the living crap out of me (when I was sober, at least ... drunk I went toe to toe with him! - how stupid is that).

Few years later, let's not forget about the crazy asshole at the pool hall - Brian and Jess were there. All that shit over alcohol and a crazy bi-sexual chick. Did I kiss her?

Years later and sober I move in with another alcoholic - an invert. And walk in one night with him pulling the gun out - not knowing who I was at first. Scared me shitless.

My point?

(Fucking please already)

When thinking about gun control - we don't need to think about the guns. They fire, they shoot, they have for hundreds of years. It's the people that bring about the reasons for control. Two of these examples - the gun owners didn't have a legal liscense. All of these incidents, the gun was used as a tool of power.

If you need a gun to feel powerful, we need gun control.
